We all know about Martin, but these others are a bit more difficult to track down. Firstly, they are European, no doubt about that. My recollection is that Martin Freres is an old Parisian flute maker from about 1859 who later made some saxes. Martin-Busine saxes may well have been made in Italy as suggested.

The 7 was too open for me, but I don't know about you. Volume shouldn't be too much of an issue with the 5JB and a soft reed. Keep the B45 for classical too. So it doesn't matter how a model of saxophone is designed or what features it has if there is no consistency in the product. Yamaha uses a good design and consistently makes every sax to that specification. The YAS-23 is probably not the "best" student model sax. The effects of tuning (pulling the mouthpiece in or out) are not linear. That is, a 1/8" or 5mm or whatever movement of the mpc, whether in (sharper) or out (flatter) will affect the high tones far more than the bottom end of the horn. My stamped logo YTS 62 has serial number 044xxx and Yamaha told me that it was manufactured in 1998. So yours should be from a fair bit before then.
